5′ Rocket Explodes!
Part 3: Final Launch Video.
It blew up in mid flight, pretty sweet but I would have rather seen it fly. I’ll get back to everyone on what exactly went wrong and the next one I’m gonna build.
Documentary on my homemade rocket. I used the same engine making technique you can see here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=O8kG2g8BMJs
More videos to come!
This beast is 5 feet long, and in theory should fly to 2 thousand feet. I’m making it with only simple parts that can be found at home depot and and hobby stores.
This video is part one of many videos that will detail how I made it. The fuel that I’m using is sugar and potassium nitrate. This stuff when mixed together burns furiously and makes a lot hot gas. What I think is funny is that this propellant isn’t even that powerful. If I used a stronger oxidizer like ammonium perchlorate, this freaker would fly about ten times faster and ten times farther. Using simple ingredients and supplies, it is possible to create a very powerful tool, which in the hands of the wrong people, can be used as a weapon of destruction.
I am NOT an anarchist or a terrorist. I just want to humor myself and in the process show everyone how simple it is to create something so powerful. Be safe, respectful of others, and always do the right thing! Enjoy.

pretty good, we made a launch system using estes ignitors, a long piece of wire, and a fancy box, complete with spurious flashing lights, and a small 9volt square battery. press the switch, short the wires, the ignitor immediately heats up red hot and hey presto!
If you want to see what happens when a rocket explodes before take off, while still on your head! check out my vid,HORRIFIC, TERRIBLE, EXPLODING HEAD ACCIDENT, SICK! GUY NOT MAIMED, MUCH!! its a bit dark but you get the idea!

Fuse is cheap and readily available anywhere, don’t skimp on it next time.
August 18th, 2006 at 9:54 pm
the reason it did that is because you drilled a hole through the propellant, you only need to drill through the kitty litter and then no more than an inch or so into the propellant, when you lit yours the flame went straight up the drilled hole and ignited the black powder.

quality viewing, but you lads really need some kind of remote ignition, i get this feeling you’re gonna lose a limb - or worse!

lol your *** was lucky it wasnt a CATO. your *** woulda been dead hahahaha. such a short fuse.

nice launch system, i should have that too
Check my rockets on my channel

theres your problem, over pressurization for not even measuring the nozzle and packing your kno3/sugar in as powder form which is highly inefficient and stupid, research on the internet properly and you will save your money and time.
September 1st, 2006 at 11:51 pm
I will show you ‘the 5 feet kno3+sugar roket complete design’ including the ignition/r.
Please, don’t do it for fun(only), do it for xperimentaly to be. Then, you’ll find the truth of happiness! see ya then.

why dont you make a bigger fuse?
September 7th, 2006 at 9:50 pm
Thats what you get one your stupid enough to use plastic for your engine!

You should figure out how to make this rocket not blow up in your face b4 you try and tell other people how to do it.
September 11th, 2006 at 9:49 am
dude use a longer fuse or electronic ignition. one small error and the rocket is a bomb. **** to see you get nuked on the ground from a bad launch.

Watch part 1 and part 2 and my other vids.

the nozzle was very small so it really took off and seemed fast. That was just dry packed stuff too.
September 17th, 2006 at 12:28 am
it tore through that fuel really fast. r-candy isnt supposed to burn that fast is it?
September 17th, 2006 at 5:02 am
awesome stuff.
i wanna learn how =P
September 20th, 2006 at 4:17 pm
You need a longer fuse!
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:01 am
nah not really, im just not on youtube every day looking to see what some one said about me so i can try and talk **** back over the internet. just dont really care. i actually have a life.

Nice job, i watched all of the videos and your theories are correct, however there should be a delay between the main propellant charge and the cap ejection, that’s probably why it went wrong. It might also be that it wasn’t packed tight enough, seeing as the charge went directly to the black powder in the cap.
Nice job though, 5/5 for this one. Glad to see some real homemade pyrotechnics!
